Beef Kurma (Ilo-Ilo Curried Beef)



2 tbsps. Cooking oil
2 tbsps. Garlic, chopped
¼ cup onions, chopped
1 tbsp. turmeric (luyang dilaw), chopped
½ k. camto, cubed
2 Maggic Beef Broth Cubes
1 liter water
2 tsps. curry powder
1 pc. star anise
2 pcs. lemongrass bulb (tanglad), crushed
¼ cup crunchy peanut butter
½ cup tomato paste
1-½ cups coconut cream
1 cup potatoes, cubed & fried
salt to taste
pepper to taste


Step 1

Heat oil, saute garlic and onions until limp. Stir in turmeric, beef and Maggi Beef Broth Cubes. Cook beef until it changes color. Pour in water and bring to a boil.

Step 2

Simmer over very low heat until beef is tender, about 1-½ hours. Add curry powder, star anise and tanglad.

Step 3

Add in peanut butter and tomato paste. When boiling, discard lemongrass bulb and pour in coconut cream and continue cooking over low heat for another 5 minutes. Add fried potatoes.

Step 4

Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot over steamed rice.
