2 eggs
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
5 tbsps. Shortening, melted
4 cups all-purpose flour
4 tsps. baking powder
¼ tsp. cinnamon or
1 tsp. lemon rind, grated
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp nutmeg
powdered, spiced or flavored sugar


Step 1

Beat the eggs. While beating, slowly add the sugar. Stir in the milk and the shortening.

Step 2

Meanwhile sift the flour and resift with the baking powder, cinnamon, lemon rind, salt and nutmeg. Mix the moist and dry ingredients.

Step 3

Shape into doughnuts usig a mold and deep-fry. When cooked, dust with powdered, spiced or flavored sugar.
