Roll Out Butter Cookies



½ cup butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
4 tsps. baking powder
½ cup sugar
3 cups all-purpose flour

For the royal icing:

½ cup eggwhite
1 tsp. cream of tartar
3 cups powdered sugar



Step 1

Cream butter and sugar for 10 minutes or until fluffy. Add egg and vanilla. Add sifted dry ingredients. Roll out with rolling pin.

Step 2

Cut with cookie cutter for desired design (e.g. shape of boys and girls). Bake at 350ºF for 20 minutes or until done. Decorate with royal icing.

Step 3

To prepare the royal icing: Combine the eggwhite, cream of tartar and powdered sugar; mix well. Fill a cup with ¾ of the royal icing. Add a few drops of desired icing color. Add a few drops of water. Using a knife, mix until the color is even. Place the colored icing in a piping bag and decorate the cookies as desired.
